Car Insurance Subaru (Car Insurance). How is a Honda CBR125 for city riding? How is a Honda CBR125 for city riding? I will be doing a minimum of highway driving with it? I think it would be great fun, given how light and nimble. But, for a true urban bike, get something with a suspension that can handle potholes, curbs, sidewalks, etc. There's nothing better than being able to hop a curb when the cages clog up the pavement. My car made a knocky noise and then dropped a lot of oil!? My car made a knocky noise and then dropped a lot of oil!? Yup! 95 Civic engine started making a metallic knocky noise. Then it kinda stalled and the sound changed to a slower more muffled noise. When I checked there was a lot of oil under the engine but I could not see where it was coming from. Also the oil pan gasket was ruptured but anyways my moms boyfriend says it is probably just the gasket. I need to fix it to give it as a down payment for my dads work truck which he definitely needs. Street Triple for second motorcycle? Well i've been riding around in my Suzuki GZ250 for about 1000 miles and I'm looking to get a second motorcycle. I'm 25 and I've already passed the MSF and I'm endorsed. I test rode the Street Triple and found the upright ergonomics appealing, plus it has plenty of power and is very maneuverable. I've been looking at other bikes as well mostly the Suzuki M50 and Harley 883 and 1200 Nightster, but I feel the Triumph is what I'm looking for. Subaru . Can CV Joints Squeal When They Are Cold and Bad?Constant Velocity joints or CV joints are a flexible coupling which allows the outer wheel to steer the car. The shaft behind the wheel turns the wheel and moves in an up-and-down motion along with the suspension. CV joints only make noises whenever they go bad, but squealing is not one of them. Temperature changes do not cause CV joints to make noises. Clicking Sound Popping and clicking sounds occur when the outer CV joint is going bad. This occurs when the car is making a 90-degree turn, such as turning a corner. The sound is more pronounced when the car is in reverse. Clunking Sound A clunking sound while the car is accelerating is a sign the inner joint which is connected to the transmission is bad. Like the outer joints, the sound is more pronounced when the car is in reverse. CV Boots The CV joints have boots similar to the boots at the base of a manual shift lever. The boot keeps lubricant in and contaminants out. Loss of lubricant can occur when the boots get old and worn or damaged by road debris. Prevention of premature failure of the CV joints starts by periodically inspecting the boots. If a boot is damaged, it can be replaced before any major damage can occur. Resources"Anatomy of the Car", Jeff Daniels, 1988
Subaru . How to Fix My Jeep Cherokee CV JointThe boot on a CV joint protects the joint from heat, cold, age and even road hazards, but over time, the boot can fail. Once this happens, the lubricating grease can become contaminated or dry out. The CV joint will then begin to deteriorate or grind, decreasing its strength. If you can catch the joint not long after the boot has become worn down, the CV joint can be repaired. The CV joint in a Jeep Cherokee can become damaged from off-road driving or from wear and tear over time. You can repair the CV joint yourself, saving you time and money. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need CV boot rebuild kit Screwdriver Electrical tape Metal snips Pliers Brake parts cleaner Step by Step : 1 Locate the CV joint on each end of the drive shaft, near the inner part of the wheel. Remove the CV boot clamps by cutting them with metal snips then remove the CV boot. Only remove the clamps and boot on the side of the damaged CV joint. 2 Mark the position of the inner race, outer race, cage and drive shaft on a piece of paper. This will help you note the position of these components during reassembly. The inner and outer race is a bearing used to reduce rotational friction. The cage is located on the inner and outer bearing and is used to hold the balls of the bearing in place. 3 Remove the wire ring from the outer race with a screwdriver. Remove the outer race from the inner bearing assembly. 4 Grab the snap ring with a pair of pliers and remove it from the axle's groove. Slide the inner bearing assembly off. 5 Remove the stop ring from the axle shaft. Use the screwdriver to remove the ball bearings from the bearing cage. 6 Align the lands of the inner race with the cage windows. The lands are the raised portion on the inner race that contracts oil in the reservoir and controls the relative speed of the cage and inner race. Remove the inner race from the bearing cage. 7 Spray all the parts with brake cleaning solvent. This will help remove grease, dirt and debris from the parts. 8 Reinsert the inner race into the cage with the splines facing the same direction as the small end of the cage. Press the ball bearings into the cage with your thumbs. 9 Wrap the splines onto the axle shaft with electrical tape. Slide the new boot and boot clamp into place. Slide the stop ring onto the shaft. Step by Step : 10 Reinstall the inner race and cage assembly onto the axle. Be sure that the larger side of the bearing cage faces outward. Step by Step : 11 Replace the snap ring into the axle groove. Seat the ring by pressing on the inner race and bearing cage to keep the ring from moving. Step by Step : 12 Fill the outer race and boot with axle grease. Step by Step : 13 Slide the outer race over the inner race. Place the snap ring over the outer race. Step by Step : 14 Install the clamps. Slide the clamps over both ends of the boot and bend the metal clip on top of each clamp down. Flatten the clip with the screwdriver. Tips & Warnings Be sure not to scratch the bearings, the cage or inner race while removing the ball bearings. This can decrease the strength of the joint.
